I washed the clothes. I did the dishes. I scrubbed the kitchen floor to a shine.
And I picked up the groceries.
Then I sat down and riffled through the stack of congratulatory cards on the side table,
All of them wishing us a very happy married life.

When reality happens, it does so slowly. None notices it until it has seeped in, except maybe the one for whom it's hitting hard. If there is love and understanding that gives a perk once a while, reality's kick would not be so hard maybe.
ReplyDeleteGood one, Peeves! You capture the intricate things that happen in life and turn them into something beautiful.
Thank you, love :)
DeleteSuccinct and powerful. Some people are such experts at disguising their realities, aren't they? You can never really gauge the extent of their suffering because you don't see anything beyond their smile. Or sometimes, you don't even want to imagine a crack in what appears to you to be a perfect picture of somebody's life.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is even worse when such a person happens to be your spouse. The lack of understanding and empathy is creating havoc while everyone thinks that they have got the worst end of the deal. Nobody's life is picture perfect.
I think I just digressed a lot. Beautifully penned, though. The last line is my favourite! :)
I have learnt that I love your digressions :)
DeleteThank you..
You know, I know some one in real like like this. All happy and lovely outside, but both their eyes do not do justice to the fake veneer they are trying to put up. More than the ones going through it, it hurts the ones who can see through it. And do nothing about it.
ReplyDeleteSo unfortunate :/ The fact that a marriage is between two people becomes a negative point in such cases :/
DeleteI loved how simply you put out their relationship.
ReplyDeleteLovely :)
Thank you, love :)
Deleteyou know this scares me. really really scares me. I dont want that life.
ReplyDeleteThis happens to people who don't communicate, Red. And I don't expect you to NOT be vocal. Don't worry about it.
DeleteOnly you can do this, PeeVee. How you can make even the most mundane situations magical.
ReplyDeleteWhat you have written about is a nightmare come true for every bride. Hats off to you. I'm in awe as always.
Nightmare, indeed. Imagine the feeling of wanting but not getting, talking but not being heard... Brrr. scares me..
DeleteAnd thank you so much :)
Life is never the same down the lane.... Jus enjoy the way u r and live it to the fullest...... cards just say "happy......" and the rest is ur part....
ReplyDeleteTrue... but disillusionment cannot be prevented unless there is effort from both sides na..
DeleteYou have beautifully expressed the story of a million girls across the world in just a couple of lines. I don't know what to say but I just wish to excel myself in the art of telling stories in just a few lines. <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, love :) When the topic is right, you will find yourself writing those perfect few lines, I'm sure :)
DeleteSo true, Peevee.
ReplyDeleteTime takes away the charm. Later, these days are just for "wishing" purpose...
True, that... But such little time?
DeleteWhoops! Striking!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good with words :)
Thaaaank you, Srishti :)
DeleteTrue love does not lose its charm. It lasts. And when it doesn't it hurts real bad !
ReplyDeleteAnd a lucky few realize the work that goes in keeping the charm intact and most let the charm wear away over time.
DeleteI guess LIFE happens .. although I keep think why it happens the way it happens .. how can we let it all go downhill .. Sad when that happens
ReplyDeleteBikram's
Yes, without effort from both parties, Life WILL happen and not in a good way.
DeleteBeautiful lines, especially the last one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nandana :)
Deletethis is lovely, Peevee! Have you tried the 55words fiction tags? I have miserably failed in those!
ReplyDeleteNo ya.. When I have to restrict myself to 55 words, I fail miserably. When I don't set a limit, I can keep it short, so I decided not to try anymore :P
Deleteamazing write Pee Vee..this is something we all dread.....the time when we get bored...
ReplyDeleteI pray this never happens to us!
Never ever. You are too sweet for it :)
