Things People Shouldn't Do....

1).... Wait till the battery is 1% to plug in your phone for charging.  The power might just go off, you know. And if you have the kinda luck I do, then automatically assume that the power WILL go off.

2).... Procrastinate going to the loo because your favorite scene is playing on telly. Accidents happen. Ones that you won't even be able to justify.

3).... Not keep back-ups of everything you own. Digitally speaking, that is. One wrong link clicked, one 'bad sector' in the hard disk, one teeny mistake - POOF! Every single song you painstakingly downloaded, every GA episode you love, every Word doc with your entire life's worth of 'outpourings', every assignment you caffeinated yourself for... Gone. Erased without a trace.

4).... Take someone for granted. They might just decide NOT to be your doormat anymore. They might decide to just up their behind and leave. And then you'll sit there and be amazed at the 'them' shaped hole in your life that sucks all the happiness out of you.

5).... Fight with your better half and then try to get even by staying up till three a.m. talking to every member of the opposite sex you can think of. One word for anyone who thinks it's a solution. UNCOOL. And I will only congratulate your better half for have a screaming match with/dumping you.

6).... Philosophize too much (especially when you're in your twenties and thirties. Or younger). Why? People start thinking you are going through a bad phase. They bring you fruit to alleviate the unhappiness. And sympathy. And lots of long, slanty looks.

Most of all, people shouldn't lie. O.k, maybe 'lie' is a blanket term. What I mean is that I get when you're lying because you've bad grades or you broke the best crystal vase or about a missed assignment or being late because of last night's party or forgotten deadline. I get that.

It's when people lie about inconsequential things that I don't understand. Those small white lies which have no real consequence except make you seem the way you want to seem. Fleeting words strung together just that second to make people believe your fake point. Lies that people don't bother hauling you up about because they are that small. What pleasure do you get in getting people to believe in your white lies? Not like they matter. Not to you, not to them, not to anyone... except in that one second before someone changes the topic.

I don't get it.

O.k, I admit, the rest of the post was a ruse to write about all the lying. But I realized suddenly just how much some people do it and I can't talk to anyone about it. I scared a couple of clueless souls with all my restless, disjointed sentences about liars and left them wondering if I had finally gone over to the dark side.

The frustration wanted an outlet and thereby the blog post.

O.k, I'm done here. The ones who snoozed can wake up and leave. Bbye.

  1. Point 1,2,3 noted for ever.

    1) Was on a VERY important call and battery goes dead. This happened just today. It seems this point was written for me. I don't know but I am lazy when it comes to charging phones. Hell! I don't even notice that the battery is low!

    2) Accident never happened. But I always go when I just can't control.

    3) About back-ups, life just taught me a lesson. My dearest cell phone fell when I was in a ride in the amusement park :( :( :( I do have the back up but it was not updated.

About lies, I don't lie much but I hide, not my facts....Its like "don't ask me....either I will hide or I will lie" and I prefer hiding.
But you toh chill maro ji! Ki fark painda hain!!

  3. 4<- the best one... and also not be someone's doormat either.
And i would say even if you lie it should be the one which really doesn't get on ur self conscience. :)

  4. There is something I have noticed and actually deep inside like the best about your posts.. Its that it gets interesting towards the end...!! I maybe the only one feeling it this way.. But then hey.. I am commenting on my behalf right.. So.. I was saying that your posts get interesting towards the end and the venting about the ''thou shldn lie'' was nice.. Strangely i had a smile.. Maybe it was because the pointers above were just a bit funny (especially # 2 )

anyways.. Hope you are feeling better now....!! Take care n keep smiling :):):)

i agree with you on the lying bit. white lies, especially those that people say to show themselves in a better light, are absolutely uncool.

    My first here :)
So so true - the battery charging - same pinch - sigh. I never learn.
Inconsequential lies - yes,I have seen the lot. Some more so attention seeking (ASB) and less so entertaining. But well, they sure make life colourful in their own way ("white" lies?) - ignore my craziness.

Happily happy to bump into your blog ! :) Am off to read fiction now :P

  18. hmm.. Nice Post. And I won't be a hypocrite and say white lies that I don't. Sometimes I find myself saying exactly the kind of lies you mentioned -inconsequential that nobody would care... As soon as I utter them , I would feel..OMG why did I say that.. there was no need. Now I take a very serious effort not to do that. But they do escape from my lips once in a while. Add me to your hate list. I just did not want to be a hypocrite and say that I don't lie like everybody else.

I'm so sick of the pointless lies. One day you come and say,"The sun doesn't bother me. I don't wear sunscreen." The next day you complain about how much you're going to tan.
It doesn't change my life in anyway and I don't even want to know.
People just don't get it do they??

  30. can totally relate to the battery and loo bit..hah hah!

I hate lying too...esp when its about stupid stuff. But its sad at times. I mean I have this friend, she would keep telling small lies about her husband, marriage etc and contradict herself at a later date (who remembers all their lies?). And few years later came clean about her bad marriage and divorce. Felt sorry for her suddenly, she had been lying to hide a lot of pain. So if this rant is about one particular person lying too much, beware..something is terribly wrong

    ReplyDelete
  31. Point number 4, completely agree... Have experienced that many times. And still I do that (shamelessly).

Oh lies!!! We can write a whole thesis on lies in our lives. Sometimes lies that they say just to save their face can spoil our lives beyond repair. We are victims now for our relatives found it normal to lie to our parents, screwing our happiness :(((

Now coming to the lies. Damn 2 things I can't stand, lies and infidelity.

Small white lies I do understand but the others?? No No No. Lying to me is a sure shot way of exiting from my life. This is one deed that I can never forgive. Never ever. Ewww, pisses me off even to think of it.

  36. Hahhaha.. How true.. And hey even i always have wondered why do people speak white lies.. Just to make them selves impressive or interesting or something else.. Strange it is.. Even I do lie but only when it is very necessary to lie.

And about big lies.. i believe when someone lie to us then there must be definitely some reason behind it.. May be the truth is harsh for us to bear or may be something else. I have always forgiven my closed once even when I knew that they lied to me:) I dunno if I m right or wrong in this matter but relationships r more important then all these silly things.. Isn't it??? :-)
